Green Goodness

Hey Lovelies,

How have you guys been? Is it winter yet, where you are? Its lovely winters here in Delhi. I have something at the end of this blog to keep you warm. So now that you have stumbled on my blog, let me put your time to some good use today. I’ve been obsessively into the greens and pulses that I have neglected my body for long. My body says a big thank you to me everyday. I have been reading up so much on nutrition and that’s when I learned the health benefits of spirulina. Most of ya’ll may be new to this and some of you may be used to seeing this (and never tried). Let me quickly tell you how this little magic stuff is a must-must in your daily diet. It is even called the original super-food for a reason.

I was reading up this book called ‘Beauty Diet’ by Shonali Saberwal, when I was first introduced to this magic food. Then on, I have been reading up a lot on this and researching how to get this in India. Unfortunately, we don’t get this fresh in India, and we have to settle with the dried powder or tablets available online. I waited no long, and got my tin of 60 tablets from ‘Herbal Hills’ via amazon.

Spirulina is a blue green freshwater algae that has benefits from clearing your colon, protecting you from mercury & arsenic poisoning, controlling your blood pressure, weight loss, boosting immunity, help grow healthy bacteria in you, solve allergies, normalize cholesterol, lower your stroke& cancer risks, healthy alternative for animal protein,

Recommended dosage: 1 heaped tsp or a 5 mg tablet, twice a day. I just had once a day. Start off with smaller dosage if you are just starting off anyways. It is a very powerful detoxifier, so start of with small dosage and work your way up.

Some people who don’t like the flavour, please mix it in some kind of sweet vegetable juice. Try to have it 1-2 hour before your meal.

This little 1 tsp you have is so rich in protein, it can outrun an ounce of beef. Keep drinking a lot of water along with this cleansing. Do not panic if you get mild headache or indigestion. It just means the algae is doing your body good. Have patience and you’ll see the results soon.  Although, I would recommend that pregnant and nursing women stay away from this.

Spirulina is known to rack up your immunity,    creating a protection around the cell membranes, making it difficult for the invading microbes to attach themselves.

I got this info from Wiki that shows you just how awesome this little algae is:

Hope you guys try it out and load up your Chlorophyll junkie. The greens are very important in our health and nutrition, you should try include it daily. They purify you from inside, help digestion churn out better, reduce the build up in the body, helps your skin glow and help maintain an intestinal balance. Light blanched and ‘lightly cooked’ are the way you need to eat your greens. Do not over cook them and destroy the nutrition, or have them raw making your system work hard to break the complex plant walls. Light cooking always breaks the nutrients down for easy digestion. Let me quickly give you a healthy green drink to try:

– half cup blanched spinach (In India you can use paalak & Saag both)

– 1 whole juicy carrot (for the sweetness content)

-a piece of Ginger (For digestion aid  & Flavour)

– a tbsp onion salt (optional, for taste)

– half cup Broccoli, lightly stir cooked

– handful of almonds to mask the green taste, to slowly grow into it. You can replace this with flax seeds, chia seeds or even sunflower seeds.

– a dash of Lemon (Always to accompany the green digestion)

Blend away and have. Your body will love you back.
